Las Quartets - Part 1

Historically the final rarely ends up as the show piece.

Often, it is a match from the semi or quarter finals that is burnt in our memory and is looked back on as the match the eventual champions rose to the occasion of the World Cup.

Think 86', Argentina vs England, or more recently 06' Italy vs Germany.

In the quartet of matches that approaches us, there is a classic match awaiting.

Part 1

Pressure vs Hope

Colombia’s futbol fits perfectly with the findings of a recent study.

It concluded that Colombian people are the happiest in the world.

It brings Joy.

James, is the epitome of that joy.

On the pitch, he just looks like a boy trying to impress his family and friends.

La Seleccao, are carrying a nation of expectation.

But it seems they may have just passed over the mountain.

The players were overcome with emotion from being pushed to five inches from defeat.

That outpour of emotion though, was just the trick to ease the noose of expectation.

Art vs Science

Once easily distinguishable, now not so.

The machine focused on end product, has evolutionalised itself to focus on ideas.

The traditional artist, seems to have a ruthless edge once renowned with the machine.

The lines are blurred these days. The enemy is always changing.

An old score is to be settled, Battiston may have his day.

Two classic quarter finals, before they have even kicked-off.

I see a 98 World Cup Final replay awaiting us...
